This past January, the Native American Bear Foundation had the incredible opportunity to attend Native American Heritage Night at the Golden State Warriors game, and what an unforgettable night it was! Chase Center was filled with energy, culture, and community as fans, players, and advocates came together to celebrate Indigenous heritage in a truly special way.
From the moment we stepped into the arena, we could feel the significance of the night. The Warriors did an amazing job integrating meaningful activations throughout the game, ensuring that Native culture was acknowledged and celebrated on a grand stage.
A Night of Powerful Moments
🏀 Pregame Recognition – Before tipoff, the Warriors gave a special shoutout to The Lindy Waters III Foundation, recognizing its impactful work in supporting Native youth through education and mentorship. Lindy Waters III, a proud member of the Kiowa and Cherokee Tribes, has been a trailblazer for Indigenous athletes, and it was inspiring to see his foundation uplifted on such a platform.
🪶 Halftime Performance – The energy in the arena soared as local Native American dancers and drummers took center stage for a breathtaking performance. Their vibrant regalia, rhythmic beats, and mesmerizing movements were a powerful display of Indigenous culture and resilience. Seeing Native traditions highlighted in front of thousands of fans was a moment of pride and joy for our community.
🎤 Post-Game Panel – After the game, an inspiring panel discussion took place featuring Loren Waters, Tommy Orange, David Telles, and Lindy Waters III. These incredible voices shared their experiences, insights, and the importance of Native representation in sports, literature, and advocacy. Their words resonated deeply, reinforcing the power of visibility and storytelling in shaping a brighter future for Indigenous communities.
Looking Ahead
The Native American Bear Foundation is honored to have been part of such a meaningful night. Events like this are a reminder of the strength, beauty, and resilience of Indigenous communities. We look forward to returning to Chase Center and continuing to support initiatives that amplify Native voices and create opportunities for future generations.
Until next time—thank you, Golden State Warriors, for an unforgettable night! 💙💛
